چکیده

Carbon monoxide (CO) has always been recognised as a toxic gas, due to its higher affinity for haemoglobin than oxygen. However, biological studies have revealed an intriguing role for CO as an endogenous signalling molecule, a gasotransmitter. CO is demonstrated to exert many cellular activities including anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and antiproliferative activities. In animal studies, CO gas administration can prevent tissues from hypoxia or ischemic-reperfusion injury. As a result, there are a plethora of reports dealing with the biological applications of CO and CO-releasing molecules (CORMs) in inflammatory and vascular diseases. CORMs have already been tested as a therapeutic agent in clinical trials. More recently, an increased interest has been drawn to CO’s potential use as an anticancer agent. In this review, we will aim to give an overview of the research focused on the role of CO andCORMs in different types of cancer and expand to the recent development of the next generation CORMs for clinical application in cancer treatment.

Carbon Nanotubes as Near Infrared Radiation (NIR) Molecules for Cancer treatment

Introduction: The photo-thermal therapy by nanoparticles has been recently known as an efficient strategy for the cancer treatment. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been extensively studied in biomedical application due to the easy uptake and high permeability in the cells, biocompatibility in biological environments and also their unique electrical, thermal properties. They genera...

Long-term spatial and temporal variability of ambient carbon monoxide in Urmia, Iran

One of the pillars of epidemiologic research on the long-term health effects of air pollution is to estimate the chronic exposures over space and time. In this study, we aimed to measure the intra-urban ambient carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations within Urmia city in Iran, and to build a model within the geographic information system (GIS) to estimate the annual and seasonal means anywhere with...

Adsorption of Carbon Monoxide on a (6, 6) Armchair Carbon Nanotube: Ab initio Study

Perhaps the more interesting nanostructures with large application potential, from transistors to probes, are carbon nanotubes. One of the most widely uses of these nanostructures are their applications as gas detector, which is an important application in the field se of environmental technologies. The present work studies the adsorption of carbon monoxide on a (6, 6) armchair carbon nanotube ...

Catalytic Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide by Cobalt Oxide Catalysts Supported on Oxidized-MWCNT

Cobalt oxide catalysts supported on oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) for the low-temperature catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide were prepared by an impregnation-ultrasound method. These catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption/desorption, TEM, XRD, Raman, and H2-TPR methods. The XRD and Raman results indicated that the phase of the synthesized cobalt...
